Milwaukee PBS Launches New Website

Milwaukee PBS recently launched their redesigned website, created for them by Starkmedia. Milwaukee PBS, formerly Milwaukee Public Television, provides non-commercial media access for southeastern Wisconsin. They offer diverse programs on nine channels, two high-definition and seven digital, with the goal of serving the community by offering engaging programs for children and adults.

When the Starkmedia team first began work on this project, they did so with the intent of making the site easier to manage for front- and back-end users. Milwaukee Public Television needed a site that would be responsive on a number of different devices, as well as a different CMS that would make managing the site’s content easier. MPTV also desired to rebrand its site as Milwaukee PBS as part of the redesign process.

Managing the site’s content was one of the biggest tasks the Starkmedia team had to complete for this project. To begin, the team made Drupal the site’s new content management system. They utilized Bento to integrate special events and featured programming pages, as well as ProTracks to update the schedule. Nudgemail was also incorporated to send email reminders about the airdates of shows.

To ensure that content would be shared uniformly across the site, the team used AddThis and Open Graph. The team added design and functional updates to the site’s third-party donation components, as well as sponsor ad management and tracking for additional revenue. Finally, the Starkmedia team made the new site responsive on multiple devices and rebranded it as Milwaukee PBS.
